Two of the most essential and difficult to obtain original tools for a Lambretta Model A, B, C, LC, D & LD and French LD Mk IV are the magneto housing puller tool (Lambretta tool no. 49188) and clutch bell puller tool (Lambretta tool no. 39146). Even when these original vintage tools do become available, they sell for premium sums (usually hundreds of pounds). With this shortage in the market, and also the need to have a tool for his own French Lambretta LD125 MkIV, the CEO of Spitfire Tools went about designing and manufacturing an innovative modern quality tool. Combining the two tools into one design assembly offers great value when you are effectively getting two tools within one purchase price.

Manufacture of the Lambretta Tools

Like the Spitfire, these Lambretta tools have been designed in Staffordshire England. They are also manufactured in Staffordshire England not 20 miles from the original Spitfire factory in Birmingham where the grandfather of Spitfire Tools CEO worked throughout WW2 as a Mechanical Engineer on the Spitfire engines. The main body of the tool has been machined on a 5-axis CNC machine from a solid billet of material. These tools are precision engineered with close precision tolerances. Spitfire general manufacturing tolerance is only +/- 0.1 mm with the majority of dimensions being machined to even finer tolerances. All Spitfire tools are ‘CNC machine engraved’ with the description of the tool as well as the manufacturers name and the ‘all important’ MADE IN STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND. Every Spitfire Lambretta tool is manufactured with its own unique serial number on the tool.

Materials used in clutch bell & Mag housing puller Lambretta tool

The Spitfire ‘two in one’ puller tool material, is a very high strength steel alloy which is supplied hardened and tempered. It offers high tensile strength with good ductility and wear resistance characteristics. The steel alloy grade is a nickel, chromium, molybdenum combination which has good impact properties. Some of the materials mechanical properties are: -

Tensile Strength 850 - 1,000 N/mm2

Yield Stress 680 min N/mm2

Hardness HB = 248/302

Quality of Spitfire tools

All we ask is the hexagon head ‘jacking’ screw is routinely lubricated with ‘copper slip’ grease or equivalent to maintain the smooth operation between the external and internal threads. All the hexagonal head screws are greased prior to the tools leaving the factory. All tools are subject to 100% quality inspection.

Testing the Lambretta tools 

The Spitfire ‘two in one’ puller tool has undergone extensive testing at Scooter Surgery and is now in full time use with their professional scooter mechanics in their workshop. This is probably the best testing facility available for a scooter tool due to the repeated and hard use the tool gets.
